Plumbing Courses (General Domestic Plumber)

There are many plumbing courses advertised in the press and internet some who state you can become a plumber in as little as 4 weeks and it can be confusing at first. There is only one course you should do if you want to enter the plumbing trade with the skills, qualification and knowledge to carry out the range of general domestic plumbing to be able to call yourself a 'General Domestic Plumber'. That plumbing course is the City and Guilds 6129 -2 Level 2 Technical certificate course.

The City and Guilds 6129 -2 Level 2 Technical Certificate Plumbing Course is the industry recognised foundation course for any new plumber looking to work in the plumbing industry and is the course all the colleges run for apprenticeship schemes, no other, and is the minimum qualification employers will demand.

You may hear of other City & Guilds course that are offered these are add-on courses for the City and Guilds 6129-2 Level 2 in most cases and as such are worthless as a plumbing qualification. The City & Guilds 6129-2 Level 2 Technical Certificate provides both technical and practical skills and is the core program all good domestic plumbers will recognise. It is the qualification to gain employment, go self employed, advance your qualifications and ensure you can earn a good living.

What will you be competent to do when you have passed?

After successful completion of the City & Guilds 6129 Level 2 Plumbing Course you will be able, with confidence, tackle most, if not all, general domestic plumbing from fixing a leaky tap to the design and installation of a full bathroom suite. Typically general domestic plumbers carry out the following plumbing projects:

  • Full bathroom installation and commissioning
  • Install and maintain radiators & central heating systems (not gas work)
  • Installation of appliances such as washing machines, dishwashers etc..
  • Install and maintain domestic hot and cold water systems
  • Install and maintain above and below ground drainage systems
  • Install and maintain leadwork
  • Install and maintain guttering

Professional Plumbing and Renewable Energy Course

This City & Guilds Renewable Energy Engineer Course covers all the qualifications and training for new entrants to become a Renewable Energy Engineer.

There is already an increasing demand for skills in the green sector, as commercial enterprises and households aim to reduce their carbon footprint and energy costs.

However, to properly understand, assess design and install the right renewable energy solution for each client, you must firstly be well trained in all aspects of plumbing. We would strongly discourage taking any shortcuts as insufficient training will only catch you out in the long run and you will not be able to establish a reputation for offering a reliable, professional and viable service. In particular, because renewable energy in the UK represents a part of a buildings's heating solution (often as a backup/top up to an existing boiler), it is essential for you to be able to work on gas boilers.
